Not for me

Not for me. The pacing did not work and I struggled to finish it.

A colleague recommended this and I can see why. It does something that few technical books manage: it respects the reader's time. The examples are small enough to type out and experiment with, which is exactly what I want from a book like this. The writing is direct and does not waste space on filler, which I value in a technical book. The exercises at the end of each chapter are worth doing — they caught a few misconceptions I did not know I had. I would look elsewhere unless you have a specific reason to need this particular title.

Not for me

A few useful pages, but mostly material I had seen better elsewhere.

I have been working with webgpu for a few years now and I still found plenty here that was new to me. The exercises at the end of each chapter are worth doing — they caught a few misconceptions I did not know I had. A couple of chapters felt like they could have been merged, but that is a minor complaint. The book rewards careful reading. Skimming it would be a mistake. Not one I will be returning to. There are better introductions to webgpu available.

Better than I expected

Exactly the book I needed. Straight to the point and genuinely useful.

This is the third book I have read on webgpu this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. A couple of chapters felt like they could have been merged, but that is a minor complaint. The author clearly knows the subject deeply and has thought hard about how to teach it. The early chapters move quickly through material I already knew, but the later sections were genuinely new to me. This is the book I wish had existed when I started working with webgpu.
